Fat Consoles
By![]()
If cars could gain weight, this is what they’d look like, according to Austrian artist Erwin Wurm.
The flesh-like aluminum bulges and drips from the frame, wry commentary on a Western culture that’d sooner drive round the block than walk it, perhaps.
Or possibly a vision of how cars will metaphorically appear in a post oil civilisation, fat from disuse, clogging driveways and garages with their useless, immovable bulk.
Anyway, Wurm’s work got me thinking as to what a videogame console might look like if it put on some weight.
Here’s a PlayStation 2 that I overfed during the festive season:

Looks like the car from the Milky Way advert.
After he’s stuffed his face with everything he sees, from trucks to prickly trees, obv.

My 360 looks like it lost a little weight in the generation since the original Xbox. Looks awfully pale too.
